Astronomy Lab

This Lab provides students with the opportunity to experience and appreciate global scenarios and viewpoints from a unique perspective. The Space Exploration Lab also offers career guidance for interested students.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT IN SCHOOLS: Teaching astronomy contributes to an understanding of physics and the origin of the world around us, a shared cultural background, and a sense of wonder and exploration. It is concerned with the evolution, physics, chemistry, meteorology, and motion of celestial objects, as well as the formation and development of the universe.” One of the most important aspects of astronomy is its ability to help us understand our place in the universe.

ASTRONOMY LAB IN ARMY PUBLIC SCHOOL CANTT KANPUR: In APS Kanpur this astronomy lab is developed under the supervision of BRIG. Nanda Kumar K. and our principal sir Mr. V.Muralidharan. It includes a well equipped room which contains a number of interactive models, such as why sky appears blue ,phases of moon, how gravity acts in space, vacuum chamber activity, comparison of gravity on different planets, telescopes of different aperture and many other experiments related to astrometry and astrophysics.

INSTALLATION & EXPENDITURE: We have installed this lab with the help of “SPARK ASTRONOMY PVT.LTD.”New Delhi. They provided us interior work of lab and activity based models. Electric work is done by APS Kanpur & it includes a cost of approximately six lakhs.

Physics Lab

The physics lab of Army Public School Kanpur is spacious with state of art facilities that can accommodate 25-30 students at a time. It facilitates first-hand experience of learning different concepts of physics and in developing scientific reasoning through experiments. Students in hands on lab activity will remember the subject matter better, feel a sense of accomplishment when the task is completed and be able to transfer that experience to other learning situations. It helps to bring the subject alive and generate interest among the students which enhance and enrich the learning process. We have a number of equipments which are useful to impart concepts of physics in a play-way method.

Chemistry Lab

The chemistry lab of Army Public School Kanpur, Cantt is spacious with state of art facilities that can accommodate 30 plus students at a time. It facilitates first-hand experience of learning more chemistry concepts and do more chemistry practical. Students in hands on lab activity will remember the subject matter better, feel a sense of accomplishment when the task is completed and be able to transfer that experience to other learning situations. It helps to bring the subject alive and generate interest among the students which enhance and enrich the learning power. We can increase number of practical which are related to all branch of chemistry (physical, organic and inorganic) in a play-way method.

Biology Lab

The Biology Lab of ARMY PUBLIC SCHOOL KANPUR is highly equipped and well stocked. The idea is to enable hands on learning by the students, “Learning by doing” being the motto of our Biology lab. It is a very spacious, state of the art lab and can accommodate up to 30 students at a time. Our lab is well equipped with all sorts of facilities, ranging from sufficient number of microscopes for students to varieties of permanent slides and apparatus that is easily accessible to children. Various models , charts and well labelled diagrammatic representations of specimens are present as per CBSE norms so that students can visualize and understand easily.

Besides offering the hands-on experience, students can conduct experiments, review them closely, develop logical reasoning, and respond to analytical comments. These are some of the valuable skills that help in preparing the next generation of scientists and medical professionals.

Through experiments, students are able to gain firsthand knowledge and appreciate various concepts of biology. The study of biology provides students with opportunities to develop an understanding of our living world , the flora and fauna, evolution of organisms and their structures, functions, processes, and interactions with each other and with their environments. Our Biology lab provides a rich experience to the students to apply scientific methodologies, model best practices for life and the environment, ensures inclusion of learners of all abilities, and consistent adherence to safety standards.

Mathematics Lab

The math lab of ARMY PUBLIC SCHOOL KANPUR is spacious with state of art facility that can accommodate 35-40 students at a time A mathematics laboratory is a place where we find a collection of games, puzzles, teaching aids and other materials for carrying out activities. These are meant to be used both by the student by their own and together with their teacher to explore the world of mathematics, to discover, to learn and to develop an interest in mathematics. Although mathematics is not an experimental science in the way in which physics, chemistry and biology are, a mathematics laboratory can contribute greatly to the learning of mathematical concepts and skills.

  • A mathematics laboratory provides an opportunity for the students to discover through doing. In many of the activities, students learn to deal with problems while doing concrete activity, which lays down a base for more abstract thinking.

  • Because of the larger time available individually to the student and opportunity to repeat an activity several times, students can revise and rethink the problem and solution. This helps to develop metacognitive abilities.

Computer Lab

Technology advancement has affected every sphere of life especially education. This has changed our perception of what a school should provide for its students. In times of booming technology the computer labs at Army Public School Kanpur provide the appropriate platform to the students to be future technoartist. The computer labs are used not just to hone the skills of computer students but also provide an exposure to the students. With three main labs which cater to the needs of senior, middle and primary sections, the labs also provide facilities to the students to explore the world through internet. Primary computer lab is the complete amalgamation of visual entertainment and learning. In the middle and senior wing students are taught concepts of Flash, HTML, QBasic, VB, MS Office, C, C++, Python, Java, MySQL at various levels which prepare them to face the tough challenge of computer world later on.

Geography Lab

The Geography lab of Army Public School Kanpur is well equipped with a series of maps, the wall maps, variety of Globes, sheets, charts, thermometers, magnetic compass, Mini Planetarium, Contour charts & CDs related to different topics are also kept in the lab.The students to study the natural occupancy of various facts and information about physical changes with the help of Global positioning system and Geographic information system available on Net. Geography Lab specializes in the development of qualitative, quantitative research and geographical skills of the students.

Field surveys are enhancing our understanding about patterns of spatial distributions. The earth as a home of humankind and are carried out through observation, sketching, measurement, interviews etc. Under the field survey students have conducted “survey on poverty” at the slum area near Chandari the “land use survey” in many villages & towns of Kanpur dehat etc.

Geography lab plays a pivotal role in enriching geographical base of a student- a necessary part of learning that exposes students to full spectrum of disciplinary subfields- physical, human and nature-society geography as well as geographical techniques. We teach our students to practice freedom within the means by which they can deal creatively and critically with reality and discover how to participate in the transformation of the world.

Language Lab

The language laboratory is an audio or audio-visual installation used as an aid in modern language teaching. Army Public School Kanpur’s Language laboratories (Primary and Senior wings) provide practices in listening comprehension, speaking (listen and repeat), with the goal to reinforce the grammar, vocabulary and functions (grammatical structures) presented in class. The purpose of a language lab is to involve students to actively participate in language learning exercises and get more practice than otherwise possible in a traditional classroom environment.

Components in our Language Lab:

  • Teacher has a computer with appropriate software for conducting language exercises.
  • Teacher and students wear headsets that block outside sounds and disturbances.
  • Teacher and student’s positions are connected via LAN (local area network), in some cases also via separate audio cabling.
  • Junior classes also takes interest in lab through charts and models to understand the concept of theory.
  • A server computer or a separate storage device is often used to store lesson materials in a digital format.

The Computer Assisted Language Laboratory (CALL) uses computer to teach language. The course materials are already fed into the computer and are displayed according to the features available in the system (Wordsworth Software).

With our well equipped language lab, our students in the class can speak simultaneously without distracting one another regardless of the class size. It offers students an enjoyable and structured e-Learning environment that is successful and reliable. The headset/microphone provides students with a psychological privacy that promotes their four main language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. It also reduces the inhibitions felt in normal classroom situations. Essentially a lab with 20-25 students is the ideal one. Students learn more comprehensively through a language lab, using more class time instead to achieve these three main objectives:

  • Self-learning: The student progresses in a self-guided but structured and progressive training to achieve the goals and objective set by the school or educational body.
  • Complimentary: Language labs allow students to reinforce material learned in class by putting them into practice through interactive activities.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation:Teachers know the progress of each student and receive reports of strengths and weaknesses to better adapt the classroom activities.

The ATL lab of ARMY PUBLIC SCHOOL KANPUR is a step of Central Government of India.The Government of India has setup the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) at NITI Aayog.
